Happy Birthday to Princess Tatiana Radziwiłł, who turns 85 today! The daughter of a Polish Prince and a Greek Princess, and the granddaughter of the legendary Princess Marie Bonaparte, who has been the lifelong friend of Queen Sofia of Spain, Princess Tatiana wore Princess Marie Bonaparte’s Cartier Pearl and Diamond Bandeau!

When Princess Marie Bonaparte married Prince George of Greece and Denmark in 1907, she received several spectacular wedding gifts like her Cartier Olive Wreath Tiara as well this Pearl and Diamond Hair Comb, which was among the jewels displayed in the window of Cartier in Paris.

While the Hair Comb was never publicly worn by Princess Marie Bonaparte, it was worn quite often by her daughter, Princess Eugene, for the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at Westminster Abbey in 1937.

The next year, the Cartier Hair Comb was worn by Princess Eugenie for the Wedding Gala of Crown Prince Paul of Greece and Princess Frederica of Hanover in 1938.

Later that year, Princess Eugenie also wore the Cartier Pearl and Diamond Bandeau ahead of her Wedding to Prince Dominik Radziwiłł in 1938, for which she wore the Radziwiłł Tiara.

Princess Eugenie wore the Cartier Pearl and Diamond Bandeau with her Art Deco Diamond Earrings for the Wedding Ball of Queen Elizabeth II and her first cousin, Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, in 1947, following which she primarily wore her Diamond Tiara.

17-year old Princess Tatiana Radziwiłł wore Princess Marie Bonaparte’s Cartier Pearl and Diamond Bandeau for the Greek State Visit to France in 1956..

Princess Tatiana also likely wore the Pearl and Diamond Bandeau for King Paul’s 60th Birthday Banquet at the Royal Palace of Athens in 1961, as well as  for the Wedding Ball of Prince Juan Carlos of Spain and Princess Sophia of Greece in 1962.

After her death in 1989, her jewels were inherited by Princess Eugenie’s three children, including Princess Tatiana Radziwiłł and the 3rd Duke of Castel Duino, and in 1999, the Cartier Pearl and Diamond Bandeau was sold, along with the Cartier Olive Wreath Tiara and Diamond Star Tiara, at the Beaussant Lefèvre Auction House. The Cartier Bandeau is now back in the Cartier Collection, like the Olive Wreath Tiara.
