When Princess Kako of Akishino celebrated her 20th Birthday in 2014, the Japanese Imperial Household Agency presented her with this striking Diamond Tiara and mirrored Necklace, which had been made by the Jeweller Mikimoto.
Princess Kako first wore her Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Necklace for an Audience with her grandparents, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, at the Imperial Palace on her 20th Birthday.
Three days later, Princess Kako wore the Mikimoto Tiara and Necklace again for the annual New Year’s Reception at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, with them being next worn at the New Year’s Reception the next year.
Later that year, Princess Kako wore her Diamond Tiara for the State Banquet at the Imperial Palace during the Belgian State Visit to Japan.
The following year, Princess Kako wore her Mikimoto Tiara and Necklace for the Japanese New Year’s Reception as well as the State Banquets during the Spanish State Visit to Japan and the Luxembourg State Visit to Japan.
The Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Necklace were worn by Princess Kako to the Japanese New Year’s Reception in 2019, as well as for the Accession of Emperor Naruhito of Japan and the Enthronement Banquet at the Imperial Palace later that year.
After wearing the Mikimoto Tiara and Necklace for the Japanese New Year’s Reception in 2020, Princess Kako did not wear the Diamond Tiara again for the entirety of the Covid Pandemic, with it reappearing only at the Japanese New Year’s Reception this year. We will no doubt see the Tiara and Necklace worn again by Princess Kako next week!
