Princess Ingrid Alexandra raids her mother’s closet for her first state dinner

It was her first state banquet, but Princess Ingrid Alexandra had the perfect princess look at the ready thanks to her mother!

After a busy day participating in her first state visit, welcoming President Halla Tómasdóttir from Iceland, the future queen appeared in royal splendour in one of her mother’s iconic gowns and her 18th birthday tiara.

In January 2022, Princess Ingrid Alexandra received a diamond scroll tiara that once belonged to Princess Ingeborg of Sweden, her great-great-grandmother.

The tiara was passed down to Princess Ingeborg’s granddaughter, Princess Ragnhild, after her death; and when Princess Ragnhild died in 2012, her children hung onto the tiara until Princess Ingrid Alexandra turned 18.

At the time of her great-niece’s milestone birthday, Princess Astrid—sister to Princess Ragnhild and King Harald—shared how the “beautiful” tiara was “made of interlocking diamond circles set in platinum. The button-style diamond and pearl elements are later additions. Grandfather [Prince Carl of Sweden] purchased the tiara for Grandmother when they were attending the Paris Exposition in 1900.”

She added: “It means a great deal to me that the tiara has now been given to Princess Ingrid Alexandra.”

The rest of Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s jewels have storied pasts as well. Her diamond and pearl earrings once belonged to Crown Princess Märtha, her great-grandmother, and the diamond rivière once belonged to Queen Maud. Both were loaned to Princess Ragnhild for her lifetime and were returned to King Harald in 2012.

To accompany the jewels, Princess Ingrid Alexandra wore a special gown from her mother’s closet: a baby blue tiered ballgown from Ole Yde that she wore to the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel in 2010. Princess Ingrid Alexandra, a goddaughter of the future queen of Sweden, was a bridesmaid at the wedding and it was one of her rare public appearances as a child.
