Bought by Prince Carl, Duke of Västergötland at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900 and given to Princess Ingeborg of Sweden and Denmark, this Boucheron Diamond Circle Tiara was later modified with the three large pearl elements.
While she primarily wore her Emerald Parure or Turquoise Star Tiara in the 1920s and 1930s, Princess Ingeborg was occasionally photographed wearing the Boucheron Circle Tiara in those years.
In the 1930s, the Boucheron Pearl Tiara was loaned by Princess Ingeborg to her daughter, Princess Margaretha of Sweden and Denmark, for the Wedding of Prince Christian of Schaumburg-Lippe and Princess Feodora of Denmark in 1937.
Crown Princess Märtha of Norway was loaned Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Tiara for her landmark 1939 Tour of the United States.
In 1947, Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Tiara was worn by Princess Margaret of Bourbon-Parma for the Wedding Ball of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark at Buckingham Palace.
After she gave the Napoleonic Emerald Parure to her daughter, Crown Princess Martha of Norway, during the Second World War, the Boucheron Circle Tiara became Princess Ingeborg’s most worn Tiara, being worn for the Dutch State Visit to Sweden in 1946, the Danish State Banquet at the Royal Palace of Stockholm in 1947, King Gustav V’s 90th Birthday in 1948, and King Haakon’s 80th Birthday in 1952.
Princess Ingeborg last wore the Boucheron Pearl Tiara with her Pearl and Diamond Fleur-de-Lys Brooch for the 21st Birthday Banquet of her grandson, Crown Prince Harald of Norway, in 1958, just weeks before her death.
Princess Margaretha continued to wear the Boucheron Pearl Tiara through the 1950s, most notably for a series of portraits, the Order of Amaranth Ball in 1956, and also later borrowed it from her niece, for the Wedding of Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark in 1967.
Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Tiara was inherited by her granddaughter, Princess Ragnhild of Norway, and became one of Princess Ragnhild’s most worn pieces, notably worn for King Olav’s Birthday in 1963, the Wedding of King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway in 1968, King Olav’s 70th Birthday in 1973, King Olav’s 75th Birthday in 1978.
Princess Ragnhild also notably wore Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Tiara for King Olav’s 80th Birthday in 1983, Crown Prince Harald’s 50th Birthday in 1987, Crown Prince Haakon’s 18th Birthday in 1991, the Swedish State Visit to Norway in 1993, King Harald and Queen Sonja’s Silver Wedding Anniversary in 1993.
Towards the end of her life, Princess Ragnhild wore Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Tiara for the Wedding of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway in 2001 and the Wedding of Princess Märtha Louise of Norway in 2002, and was inherited by her children, Haakon, Ingeborg, and Ragnhild Lorentzen, in 2012, unlike the other Royal Heirlooms that went back to the King.
However, in 2022, Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Tiara was given as a gift to Princess Alexandra from the Lorentzen Family, with Princess Astrid saying:
“It means a great deal to me that the tiara has now been given to Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Princess Ragnhild wanted her to have Grandmother’s tiara”
Later that year, Norwegian Royal Court released new images of Princess Ingrid Alexandra wearing Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Circle Tiara with the Order of St. Olav and the Royal Family Order of King Harald V of Norway.
The next day, Princess Ingrid Alexandra wore Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Tiara for her 18th Birthday Banquet at the Royal Palace of Oslo, with Crown Princess Märtha’s Art Deco Diamond Bracelet.
More recently, Princess Ingrid Alexandra wore Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Tiara for Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th Birthday Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace in 2023, and there is no doubt it will continue to be worn for years to come!
