Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh made a return to royal duties following the birth of Prince Charles with a three-day visit to Edinburgh on this day in 1949, 75 years ago, as part of an extended series of Tours around various parts of the United Kingdom.
Upon arrival in Edinburgh, Princess Elizabeth joined the Duke of Edinburgh as he received the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh.
That evening, Princess Elizabeth and the Duke attended a spectacular Gala Performance at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, afterwards congratulating ballerina Moira Shearer.
Princess Elizabeth wore the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara and the Nizam of Hyderabad Necklace.
