Princess Catharina-Amalia is excited for the future as she announces university plans

Princess Catharina-Amalia is headed to law school in the fall!

As the Dutch Royal Family posed for their annual summer photo call and took questions at Huis ten Bosch Palace, the court announced that the future queen of the Netherlands would be returning to the University of Amsterdam to read for a bachelor’s degree in Dutch Law.

The Royal Court shared that Princess Catharina-Amalia has almost completed her first degree in Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE); and once she successfully graduates, she will continue on in law.

The future queen will also follow in the footsteps of her fellow young royals, being reservist military training with the Defensity College training program over the next two academic years. The court said in a statement: “This is the working student program of Defense, where students are trained to become military reservists. The Princess of Orange has applied and been admitted.”

However, due to her recent surgery following a broken arm while horse-riding, she won’t be able to undertake all of the physical components until she fully recovers. Princess Catharina-Amalia said at the photocall, “I’m really looking forward to it, of course my arm will cause some delay, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

Defensity College provides “students a meaningful side job during their studies and to increase the visibility and connection between the armed forces and society.”

The future queen revealed during the family’s summer photocall that her thesis had been on the subject of AI deepfakes in relation to European law. She also revealed that, having joined her parents for a top-level NATO reception, she got to ask Ursula von der Leyen, head of NATO, questions related to her thesis.

“It was incredibly cool to ask her certain things, sort of my baby project that I have worked so hard on. She also answered them very sweetly,” Princess Catharina-Amalia said.

The Royal Court also announced that, much like her initial undergraduate degree, Princess Catharina-Amalia’s student life will be considered private.
