Princess Anne visits Canada to praise the country’s cavalry regiment on important anniversary – Royal Central

The Princess Royal has spend the weekend in Canada where she visited the country’s oldest military regiment on their 175th anniversary.

During a visit to New Brunswick, Princess Anne praised the 8th Canadian Hussars, often referred to as the Princess Louise’s.

Donning the Hussars’s red and blue colours, Princess Anne as the regiment’s colonel-in-chief, made a speech to mark the regiment’s anniversary.

She said: “The regiment and its soldiers have provided continuous service to the province of New Brunswick and Canada for the last 175 years… and by anybody’s standards, that’s no mean achievement.”

Princess Anne became colonel-in-chief of the Hussars in June 1972 – a ceremonial role she has held for over 50 years.

In addition to meeting members of the regiment, both past and present, the princess was scheduled to attend a commemorative concert, a parade and a gala dinner over the course of the weekend.

Princess Anne’s Private Secretary, Charles Davies, has accompanied her on the visit.
