Prince William shows off his table football skills to England’s Lionesses

As he handed Ms Wiegman her honours, the Prince joked that he did not usually “travel up and down the country to present them”, but said: “There’s one person that deserves this more than anyone else.”

As the team clapped and cheered, Ms Wiegman said: “I really did not expect this. It’s very pretty. Thank you very much, but it’s all about the team. I am so honoured. I feel a bit emotional. Let’s go and make some more history.”

Ms Wiegman, a Dutch national, had been appointed an honorary CBE in the New Year Honours after England won the Women’s European Championships on home soil last year.

The team will compete in the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which runs between July 20 and August 20. They will kick off their campaign against Haiti in Brisbane on July 22.

Mark Bullingham, the FA’s chief executive, welcomed the Prince to St George’s Park in the afternoon and he was able to join the team to chat during their lunch.

He later played a game of table football with England stars Millie Bright, Mary Earps and Rachel Daly, scoring the winning point alongside Bright.
