One was the heir to the throne and the other, an England footballer, but both men agreed they had two things in common.

“Everyone thinks because I am tall, I’m good at basketball but I’m terrible,” Tyrone Mings, 30, told the Prince of Wales.

“Me too!” laughed Prince William, 41, who is just a fraction shorter.

The pair met in Sheffield, the sixth and final stop on the Prince’s UK tour as he launched Homewards, his ambitious, five-year programme to end homelessness.

Mings experienced homelessness as a child, when his family was rehoused in an emergency accommodation facility, and has agreed to be an ambassador for the project.

Joining forces at Reach Up Youth, a charity that uses grassroots sports to help young people, they found themselves going head to head on the basketball court.
