The brand new photo of the Princess of Wales on Monday to mark shared for World Cancer Day got extra attention to an important message because of the person who took the snap. Kensington Palace shared that Prince Louis is behind the candid image of his mother, marking his entry into a growing club of royal photographers.

The Princess of Wales has long been a photographer, with Kensington Palace sharing several portraits and candid photos of the family from her portfolio. One notable photo includes the late Queen Elizabeth II with several of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at Balmoral.

Queen Elizabeth was also known for her love of photography. Her parents gave her a camera in her teen years and she quickly took to capturing scenes around her throughout her reign. She also reportedly kept her photo albums in strict order.

Queen Elizabeth II’s younger sister, Princess Margaret, enjoyed getting behind the camera herself, and was married to society photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones.

Prince Louis is following in the footsteps of his great grandmother. But Elizabeth II followed her own great-grandmother, Queen Alexandra, who was also a dedicated photographer. Alexandra loved to take photos of her children, her sister (Empress Maria Feodorovna), and her extended royal family.

Alexandra actually released a charity book of her photographs to raise money for several different organisations. She published Queen Alexandra’s Christmas Gift Book- Photographs From My Camera in 1908; the book featured over 130 of her personal photos.
