Prince Harry’s hometown in California was labelled “bland” and the “most boring place” to live in a damning review by a British journalist who visited Montecito to see what it was like.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex settled in Montecito, California back in 2020 following their exit from the Royal Family and move to the US.

Harry and Meghan live in a lavish mansion in the quaint town of Santa Barbara, and now The Times columnist Katie Glass has paid a visit to see what life there is all about.

But the visit left the journalist unimpressed, as she dubbed the place “bland” and the “most boring place” she has ever been despite living “in a field in Somerset”.

Ms Glass appeared to mock Harry’s move to Montecito, saying it’s a “beige mecca to wellness” and comes in contrast with London’s vibrant atmosphere.

She wrote: “I find myself feeling sorry for Harry, who’s found himself living somewhere so bland.

“Imagine leaving a palace in vibrant central London for this beige mecca to wellness.

“This might be the most boring place that I have ever been, and I live in a field in Somerset.”

The journalist added that the place is overfilled with expensive shops and no character and described how, when searching for a snack, she ended up with a “vegan, kosher, gluten-free, non-GMO certified beetroot juice and a 100 % organic vegan, gluten-free, palm oil-free, soy-free, low-sodium ‘chocolate bar’” for £8.

She said: “Everything is exorbitantly expensive. Even the plainest home shop I find, Hudson Grace, is flogging [£804] silver champagne buckets.”

The journalist concluded that Montecito is “an immaculately wholesome Disney world, where famous people go to pretend to be normal”.

She ended by saying it left her “nor nourished, but empty (and I don’t just mean my wallet)”.
