Prince Harry faces fresh Invictus blow as he posts emotional statement | Royal | News

Prince Harry has expressed his heartfelt thanks to Dominic Reid, the Invictus Games Foundation’s chief executive after he said he was leaving his role after ten years.

Mr Reid was praised for his leadership, dedication and “relentless service” as the Duke of Sussex gushed that he was “immensely grateful” to his “friend”.

Harry said in a statement: “I am immensely grateful to my friend, Dominic, whose dedication and leadership transformed the Invictus Games from an ambitious idea to an internationally recognised movement.

“His tireless efforts over the past decade have supported thousands of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans through sports rehabilitation, helping to showcase their unparalleled strength and contribution to society.

“Thank you, Dominic, for a decade of relentless service to the Invictus Games Foundation. What a journey it has been, and how fortunate we are to work with such an incredible community of people. We pray we don’t need the Games for another 10 years, but thanks to you, the team and our future CEO, we will be ready.”

Mr Reid, who has been with Invictus since it was founded in 2014, said it was “the time for someone new to take this vital movement forward into its second vigorous decade”.

He added that he was looking forward to finding his successor and said that he would not leave Invictus behind completely, noting: “Once a member of the Invictus family, you never leave.”

Former soldier Mr Reid said: “I have delivered the 10-year vision I set out, which includes the introduction of winter sport which is close to my heart as a former biathlete. I remain the Pageantmaster of the Lord Mayor’s Show and look forward to the exciting new projects I am developing.”

In May, Harry briefly visited the UK to attend the 10th anniversary service of the Invictus Games, which was not attended by any members of the Royal Family.

Meghan Markle also chose not to attend, having not returned to the UK since September 2022 when she and Harry went to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Invictus Games was founded when Harry was still a working member of the Firm but it has continued to go from strength to strength since his departure from the royals in 2020.
