Pressure is seemingly mounting for Meghan Markle as her upcoming cooking and lifestyle show has been deemed as the “last chance” to “save” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix deal.
Sources, including one entertainment executive, claimed it is “make or break” for Meghan and Harry, who now reside in the US since stepping down as senior working royals in 2020.
Writing in her column for the Daily Mail, columnist Alison Boshoff wrote that “so much hangs on” Meghan’s cookery show – especially after the “apparent failure” of their new five-part series, Polo.
Polo, which was released earlier this week, explores the elite world of the sport that Harry has played for many years.
The series, which had both Meghan and Harry noted as executive producers, hasn’t been welcomed by many critics, and has been deemed as “dull” by royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams and a “load of old tosh” by the Mail on Sunday’s Charlotte Griffiths.
Speaking of Meghan’s yet-to-be-released series, one Californian source – according to the Daily Mail – claimed to Ms Boshoff: “It’s make or break. People say Netflix are exhausted.
“It’s so much work with her and, bluntly, the ‘deliverable’ does not seem to be worth it.”
Another entertainment executive claimed: “Her show will have to be an enormous hit to turn around their deal and their reputations in this town.”
Meghan, 43, previously teased her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard back in March, with the series set to coincide with her brand.
However, the series doesn’t appear in Netflix’s January schedule so it could be expected to be released in late February – after Prince Harry’s Invictus Games in Canada – or in March.
The couple signed the five-year multi-million-pound deal with the streaming service shortly after stepping away from royal duties and moving to America. Meghan and Harry currently reside in Montecito, California with their children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, three.
