Prince Harry recently appeared on American TV, saying, “I love my family,” which is all well and good, but he’s getting ahead of himself, said one royal expert.

Since the interview with Good Morning America’s Will Reeve, there have been reports of a foreseeable reconciliation, but according to Michael Cole, former BBC royal commentator, Harry skipped a step, that being an apology.

Mr Cole has noticed that Harry and Meghan both talk about love and kindness a lot, but they don’t really show it to their own families.

The seasoned journalist said: “He did say, in that interview, how impressed he was by the families of the badly injured servicemen who take part in the Invictus Games, and how he’s seen the strength of the families coming around them.”

He adds: “If he can see that in other people’s families, one wonders why he can’t see it in his own family. He and Meghan Markle talk a lot about kindness, they talk about love, but they don’t seem to show too much of either to their own particular families.”

“They have a unique ability to do something about it. And what do they do? They don’t do the first step, which is to say sorry.”

Mr Cole, who is both a journalist and PR expert, can look at the interview from both sides.

Mr Cole provides an assessment: “If he had taken a moment to say something kind, something compassionate, something encouraging, he would have made a good impression on his brother, and that would’ve been a good step toward mending fences.”

“Because he did say that he wanted that, that he loved his family and he loved his father, had he wished to make a very long, certain step towards creating better relations with his family, in particular with his older brother.”

There’s a slight flaw with that plan, Harry is the one waiting for an apology, it’s been widely reported. But, of course things may change, and the public and the press have no way of knowing, unless there is an official announcement.

Daily Express US recently spoke to Sarah Lyall, author of Unroyal: Three Women Who Shook the Monarchy, who compares the royal family to that of reality TV, with the public, and the press, watching them “two steps removed.”

Ms Lyall said: “We only have a limited window of what it’s really like for them, so I have to see it kind of like a reality TV show.”

“So much of what goes on, we don’t really know much of this stuff, the Royal Family doesn’t give interviews to newspapers, they don’t regularly invite people in for press conferences, their meetings with the public are choreographed and controlled, and there’s very little room for getting inside any of that.”
