Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face one major issue as they seek to win over the public, a royal expert has claimed.

Speaking to GB News, Kinsey Schofield claimed Meghan’s “biggest issue in the last few years” has been “realising there’s been a shift when it comes to [the Sussexes’] popularity.

“Harry and Meghan believed their own hype when they said on that Netflix series that the reason they were ostracised was because they were much more popular than the British royals.

Ms Schofield said the couple’s “popularity has declined immensely”, and they’re now “desperate to win people over again”.

“Royalists are very much tuned out when it comes to Harry and Meghan, not rooting for their success anymore, because they feel like they have been cruel and toxic towards the Royal Family over the last few years,” she added.

It comes after a source told Closer last week that the Duchess was struggling to find a chief executive for her American Riviera Orchard lifestyle brand.

“The numbers don’t lie and to have almost 20 members of staff quitting on them tells its own story. It’s unprecedented, even for a start-up,” they said.

Earlier this month Meghan and Harry lost their chief-of-staff, Josh Kettler, days ahead of their “faux-royal” trip to Colombia. The PR guru staff member stepped down after a three-month trial period, with the Sussex camp describing it as a “mutual decision.”

A representative for the Sussexes has been approached for comment.

But despite the criticism the royal couple has faced since stepping down as senior royals in 2020, they have rightly won plaudits for using their platform to promote awareness of important issues.

In their second television interview on US soil since their explosive 2021 conversation with Oprah Winfrey, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex discussed a new initiative aimed at safeguarding children from online abuse earlier this month.

The interview, on CBS with Jane Pauley, followed the launch of their “Parents Network”, designed to help parents protect their children from cyber abuse.

Telegraph columnist Celia Walden suggested that the couple may have scored a significant victory in their efforts to combat online abuse through their Archewell charity campaign.

Meghan spoke out about the dire consequences of online abuse earlier this month, urging people to ask themselves: “What if it was my daughter, what if it was my son who comes home, who I love, and one day, right under my roof, our entire lives change because of something that was completely out of our control?”

“And if you look at it through the lens of a parent, there is no other way to see that than to try to find a solution.”

The interview received immediate praise from social media users, with one commenting: “Having endured more bullying than most, Harry and Meghan truly understand the importance of their project.”

Another user expressed support by saying, “I applaud them for using their spotlight for good”.

The Duke also continues to be a passionate advocate for veterans, including through the Invictus Games, which he co-founded in 2014.
