The Queen once refused entry to Royal Windsor Horse Show after guard mistakes her for random ‘old dear’ – Royal Central

Queen Elizabeth II attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show every single year since the event was first held in 1943, right up until her death in 2022. However, it recently emerged that the monarch was once refused entry by a guard after he failed to recognise her.

The recently unearthed story goes back to 1991 when Her Majesty, then 65-years-old, was stopped from entering the event by a security guard.

In the mix up, the guard reportedly said: “Sorry love, you can’t come in without a sticker.”

To which The Queen responded: “I think if you check, I will be allowed to come in.”

The guard did just that, and Her Majesty was allowed to enter the horse show which has a special place in her heart.

According to Hello!, the guard later admitted that he thought the monarch was “some old dear” who had became lost.

From 1943 until her death in 2022, the late monarch never missed the  Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Even in her final months, despite her health issues, The Queen attended the second day of the show to watch her highland pony compete in a competition.

Her Majesty’s horse won first prize, much to the delight of the crowd in attendance.
