Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been blasted by royal fans after they were filmed being driven in a golf buggy while waving to disabled veterans during the Invictus Games in Canada.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex travelled to Vancouver on Saturday to attend the opening ceremony of the seventh edition of the Games.
Since then, Meghan has posted various behind-the-scenes snaps of the events on her newly launched Instagram account, including the video that sparked backlash online.
While the duchess disabled comments on her Instagram posts, the video was reshared on various social media platforms and royal fans had one thing to say.
The clip showed the Sussex couple smiling and waving as they were driven around cheering crowds including disabled veterans.
One user commented on X: “So Meghan and Harry, two able-bodied people, are driven on a golf cart passed disabled veterans. Some of the veterans are wheelchair-bound.
“They should have walked through the group, meeting, greeting and shaking hands. All with a camera following them. Unbelievable.”
Another one commented: “The optics of this are hard to believe. They are RIDING past injured veterans. Some in wheelchairs.
“Waving to them from their cart because H/MM are too important to WALK. And of course they are being filmed.”
A third one agreed: “Agree that’s is so jarring to see them on their buggy ride. Gross. But I DO think the vets mind. There’s just no setting or way for them to express it. They are there for an event for themselves.”
A fourth one said: “Yeh you would of(sic) thought they would of got out and walked shook their hands but no.”
A fifth one wrote: “This is disgusting because they should be walking not taking the easy way out like always.”
Meanwhile, the couple were cheered on Monday after they headed to Whistler to kickstart the winter sports competitions.
During a speech in front of the crowds, Prince Harry expressed his enthusiasm for the winter sports competitions and praised the competitors before making a joke about his wife, Meghan Markle.
The prince took to the stage to thank the crowd for their support shortly before his wife appeared next to him, following a performance by their friend, Canadian star Michael Bublé.
Leading the crowd’s cheers, Harry joked when his wife joined him: “Now she’s going to sing!”
Meghan shook her head and burst out laughing as the crowd cheered and clapped.
