Many remember where they were on 22 July 2013 when they heard the Prince and Princess of Wales, then the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, welcomed their first child and the future king of Britain – Prince George.

Born Prince George Alexander Louis, the eldest child of the Waleses and the eldest grandchild of King Charles III was born at St Mary’s Hospital in London. His birth was widely celebrated worldwide and the Commonwealth – partly because of the expectation that he will eventually become king.

It wasn’t long until George began his royal duties. At nine months old, he made his royal tour debut as he spent three weeks with his parents in New Zealand and Australia in April 2014. Only making a handful of appearances, many remember the little one stealing the spotlight.

Ahead of his second birthday, we saw the 11-month-old nearly walking on his own at a polo match in Gloucestershire.

2015 would mark a busy summer for George. That May, he became a big brother to his sister Princess Charlotte. George joined his father in coordinating outfits to meet the newest Royal Family member. A month later, he would spot blue again as he debuted at Trooping the Colour. All before turning two years old!

Time sure flew by when George began nursery school in Norfolk in 2016. He went on to join his parents at more engagements, and he even got to meet U.S. President Barack Obama. Lucky for him, he got to stay in his pyjamas during the meeting with America’s leader.

Year four was filled with engagements and royal tours, including one to Germany and Poland. As we have seen many times before, Prince George was in awe when he got to look at helicopters during an event. He also started school at Thomas’s Battersea that autumn.

The following spring, George became a big brother once again. His brother Prince Louis was born in April 2018. When he met his new brother, George, Dad, and Charlotte all matched in coordinating blue outfits to meet the new royal.

A few weeks later, we saw him serve as a Page Boy when his uncle, Prince Harry, married Meghan Markle. This wasn’t his first go-around at the role. He had starred in his aunt Pippa’s wedding the previous year. In October 2018, Princess Eugenie again gave him the honour during her wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

After turning six, Christmas 2019 would be a big one as it marked the first time Prince George and Princess Charlotte joined the Royal Family for the annual Christmas church service at Sandringham. This family sure knows how to coordinate outfits!
The world saw much less of George and the Royal Family in 2020 when the world turned upside down during the pandemic. As the royals made sparse or virtual engagements, the youngest royals were not in the spotlight much.

Mid-2021 would bring things slightly back to normal just weeks before he turned eight. George joined his parents in cheering at the Euro 2020 finals. Much to the nation, and George’s disappointment, England was not able to bring it home.

More sporting events were added to the growing royal’s diary as he joined his parents in July 2022 for his Wimbledon debut. This was weeks after the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

In September, we saw George take on one of his first serious duties as a member of the Royal Family. In an announcement made the night before the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, it was announced George and Charlotte would join their parents in a procession behind The Late Queen’s casket as it was carried into Westminster Abbey.

May 2023 would spark another look into the growing duties of the future king. He served as one of four Pages of Honour at the Coronation of his grandpa, King Charles III. This would be a historic moment as it was the first time in modern history a future monarch was officially involved with a coronation service. Another historic moment, George became the youngest future king to play an official role in the ceremony.
It is hard to believe how quickly Prince George has grown from following in other royals’ footsteps debuting at the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital shortly after his birth to having designated roles in some of history’s largest events. And in a few years, George will be a teenager.
