Prince George training to be future king in sweet VE Day moment | Royal | News

Prince George joined his parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, at a special tea party at Buckingham Palace to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, which marked a significant milestone in the young prince’s royal journey. The tea party, hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla, honoured World War II veterans and their families. Prince George was pictured listening attentively to the veteran’s stories, shaking hands with many, looking natural as he did so.

The 11-year-old and future King, joined Prince William and Princess Kate, King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the Royal Family at the tea party. It came after some of the heroes sat with the royals to watch a military procession outside the Palace to kick off a week of celebrations marking the historic anniversary.

Among the guests were a 98-year-old former prisoner of war, a 99-year-old who served with the Desert Rats and took part in the D-Day landings, and a 100-year-old woman who worked in the Special Operations Executive (SOE).

As reported in the Daily Mail, the granddaughter of veteran, 101-year-old Alfred Littlefield, said George was very interested in finding out about the veterans.

She said: “George even asked my grandfather how old he was during his service.”

Veterans enjoyed sandwiches, scotch eggs and scones at the tea party. Also on the menu were potted shrimps with brown bread and butter, egg and bacon quiche, vegetable pasties and sausage rolls, along with lemon and carrot cake, chocolate cake, treacle tarts and strawberries and cream.

They dined on large tables in the Marble Hall which was decorated in bunting made from fabrics recycled from the royal estate.

Meanwhile, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis all attended the VE Day commemorations on May 5, known as Victory in Europe Day, which is celebrated on 8 May each year to mark the day the Allies formally accepted Germany’s surrender in 1945.

George, Charlotte, Louis looked adorable in navy blue as they colour-matched their father and took their seats in the stands to watch the military procession.

When the Waleses and their children took their seats they shook the hand of Royal British Legion veteran Bernard Morgan, who was sitting next to Kate, and he appeared to show her photographs.

For the rest of the week, the Royal Family will be out in full all week as they lead the nation in commemorating the milestone 80th anniversary of VE Day with a series of scheduled engagements – on Thursday, the royals will attend a special service at Westminster Abbey, followed by a star-studded concert at Horse Guards Parade.

This year’s 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe marks the first major VE Day commemorations to be held in the absence of Queen Elizabeth II.
