Prince George was all smiles on Saturday as he stepped out with his royal relatives for Trooping the Colour celebrations. The annual event, which marks the official birthday of the monarch, saw the royals gather for the event, which ended with a spectacular flypast.
Watching from the Buckingham Palace balcony, George, 11, was fully invested in watching the aircraft as they flew overhead, and seemed to know a lot about them too. In fact, the second-in-line to the throne knew so much that he managed to show off his interest to his grandfather King Charles, 76.
Lip reader Jeremy Freeman told The Mirror that the King asked “what is that?” whilst pointing at an aircraft during the flypast. Prince William, 42, replied: “Errr is that Poseidon?”
Prince George then said with absolute certainty: “It’s a Poseidon, yeah.”
This is not the first time George has showed off just how good his aircraft knowledge is.
When he appeared on the famous Buckingham Palace balcony a month prior for the 80th anniversary of VE Day celebrations, George was also seen conversing with his dad William about the types of aircraft.
During this flypast, George correctly identified an incoming aircraft as an Atlas – a pretty impressive skill for an 11-year-old.
While George may like watching planes, it seems that he also enjoys being in them, and even had his first ever flying lesson last year.
This is reported to have taken place at Waltham airfield, close to the family home at Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Castle estate.
The prince is believed to have flown with an instructor while proud parents Prince William and Princess Kate watched from the ground.
