Prince Edward is celebrating his 61st birthday today after a successful year for the royal.

The King’s younger brother is set to mark the day with some of his nearest and dearest, despite the fact his wife, Duchess Sophie, is expected to be flying out to New York for royal work.

The Duke of Edinburgh is likely to spend the day at his Bagshot Park home in Surrey instead.

His birthday comes just weeks after his wife Sophie turned 60 in January, marking a huge milestone for the duchess.
