Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th Birthday Celebrations 


The Danish Royal Court has announced the schedule for Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th Birthday Celebrations in October, which will be marked with an appearance on the Balcony of Amalienborg Palace and a Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace as well as a meeting of the Council of State held the following month. The eldest child of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, Prince Christian is second-in-line to the Danish throne.

October 15

  • At 12.00, Prince Christian will appear with his family and Queen Margrethe II on the balcony of Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg.

  • At 17.00, Queen Margrethe will host a Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace, where, among other things, representatives from a selection of the country’s youth organizations as well as young people who have distinguished themselves in the world of sport, art and culture are invited.
  • In addition, the Royal Palace, in collaboration with the country’s municipalities, will invite up to 200 young people from the Commonwealth to participate in the celebration, as each of Denmark’s municipalities as well as Greenland and the Faroe Islands will have the opportunity to select two 18-year-olds to participate in the gala.

November 14

  • At 9.30, Prince Christian will be in a meeting of the Council of State, where the Prince will make a so-called solemn declaration that he wishes to comply with the constitution.
  • Prince Christian will then be able to be appointed as head of state. Prince Christian will not get a seat in the Council of State until a change of throne has taken place.
