Prince Albert II of Monaco was in New York City last weekend to mark a milestone anniversary for the Prince Grace Foundation-USA.
Prince Albert attended the Princess Grace Awards Gala at the Pierre Hotel in Manhattan. The glittering event celebrated the Princess Grace Foundation- USA’s 40th anniversary.
The foundation was created in 1984 to honour Princess Grace of Monaco’s legacy after her 1982 death in a tragic car accident.
The foundation supports emerging performers in dance, theatre, and film, and provides scholarships, grants, fellowships, and awards. Since founding, the organisation has given out over $19,000,000 to recipients.
Prince Albert was not alone at the gala, though. His eldest child, Jazmin Grimaldi, also attended the event. The 32 year old American actress is not in line for the throne, as the Prince never married her mother Tamara Rotolo.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Prince Rainier III Award, an award established in 2005. The prize is given to celebrate an individual who has had a significant career and a strong body of philanthropic work.
American actor Michael Douglas was given the Prince Rainier III Award this year. The award also comes with a grant; this year’s grant will go to The Douglas Foundation.
