There was no weekend off for King Philippe of the Belgians as he was out and about on both Saturday and Sunday.
King Philippe took charge on Saturday as he sat in the driver’s seat of a new tram. The new Line 10 in Brussels is routed from Neder-over-Heembeek to Uccle and the Belgian king was able to turn his hand at driving for a change. After learning about the tram and the new line, he happily took the tram along the line and waved at visitors as they passed.
The launch of the new tram line coincides with European Mobility Week.
On Sunday, the Belgian King then set out on the streets with his younger daughter, Princess Eléonore, to celebrate a car-free day for European Mobility Week.
The two were out on their bikes in Mechelen in Northern Belgium. They were happy to stop and chat with the crowds as they enjoyed the nice weather.
The sixteen year old princess will sometimes attend engagements with her parents. While she often attends more formal events, she was able to wear a casual look of a wide-legged jeans, a red sweater, and one of her favourite pairs of trainers, her Adidas Handball Spezial Trainers in navy and white.
