Royal rascals Mike and Lucas Tindall made a flying visit to the Burghley Horse Trials today to watch mum Zara Tindall in action.

While they were waiting for the King’s niece to compete, Mike picked up his three-year-old son and flew him through the air.

Much to the child’s delight, Lucas giggled wildly as he was swung into the air by dad Mike while sporting a red jumper, shorts and trainers.

The King’s great-nephew was later spotted sitting on dad Mike’s shoulders while enjoying an ice cream, pictured below.

Zara is competing in the trials alongside her beloved gelding Class Affair.

The 43-year-old – who is Princess Anne’s only daughter – is known for her equestrian achievements, which includes winning gold at the World Equestrian Games in 2006, the same year she was crowned BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year.

During Class Affair’s inspection in the run-up to the trails, Zara opted for a smart yet practical look a few days ago.

The mother of three paired a black top from Fairfax and Favor with a statement gold zip and bow with slim-fitting white jeans.

Zara last competed in the Wellington International Horse Trials in Hook, a village in northern Hampshire on August 26.

For that event, the royal donned a riding hat and dressage uniform and looked focused as she guided her horse through the course.

Zara’s dedication to the sport is revered. The Tindall family left Balmoral early this summer so that Zara could compete in both the Wellington International and the Burghley Horse Trials.

It is not known how Zara will mark the second anniversary of the late Queen’s passing tomorrow, but it is thought she will mark it privately with her family in England.
