Meghan Markle’s response to Kamala Harris’s nomination for Vice President suggests she and Prince Harry would be vocal supporters of her possible run to be President.
In 2020, the Duchess of Sussex said “I’m so excited” when it was revealed that Joe Biden had selected Ms Harris to be his running mate during the presidential election, which saw the Democrats oust Donald Trump from office.
Meghan explained at the time she was thrilled to see a woman of colour in such a powerful position: “I’m so excited to see that kind of representation.
“You know, for me, being biracial, growing up, whether it was a doll or a person in office, you need to see someone who looks like you in some capacity.
“As many of us believe, you can only be what you can see. And in the absence of that, how can you aspire to something greater than what you see in your own world?”
The Duchess of Sussex has never publicly stated that she wants to enter politics or plans to run for office, but one royal biographer believes it will only be a matter of time before this changes.
Tom Bower told Daily Express US: “I think it will become clearer in a year or two when the children are a bit older whether she goes into politics.
“The trouble is she’s got a thin skin and doesn’t like criticism, and she can’t cope with two or three cameramen following her.
“So she isn’t going to do very well as a politician.”
True Royalty’s Nick Bullen told Fox News Digital: “I think it would be fascinating. Imagine a world in which she does make it to the White House. [Prince] Harry is the first husband.
“There’s a state visit, and what happens then if Meghan is hosting [the British Royal Family] at the White House? You’re going to want a front-row seat for that, aren’t you?”
Working members of the Royal Family are expected to remain apolitical, but over in the US, Meghan would be free to pursue a political career should she choose.
