Meghan Markle’s pal dishes on ‘negative reaction’ following Netflix show | Royal | News

In a new interview, Hollywood star Mindy Kaling has addressed the online reaction to Meghan Markle correcting her friend on the use of the title ‘Sussex’ in her new Netflix show, ‘With Love, Meghan’. Mindy appeared on the American talk show The View, to discuss her new show ‘Running Point’ when co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin asked what her experience was like cooking and hanging out with Meghan.

Mindy replied stating, “You know, I had a great time,” before alluding to social media chatter about an exchange she had with Meghan over the duchess’ last name. “I noticed that whenever I do something, anything related to Meghan, it becomes like…,” she began before searching for the right words. “Big news,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said. “Big news,” Mindy repeated.

She also noted it was “fascinating” seeing the reaction to Meghan Markle on social media. Goldberg added: “People love to hate her. People love to talk about her.” The actress also appeared on Meghan’s Archetypes podcast on Spotify, which is when they first met.

In her Netflix show, which has so far received mostly negative reviews, the duchess can be doubling down on her name after correcting her friend Mindy Kaling when she calls her by her maiden one – Meghan Markle. Meghan tells her: “It’s so funny you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know, I’m Sussex now. You have kids and you go ‘No, I share my name with my children.’ I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me but it just means so much to go ‘This is our family name. Our little family name.'”

Five years have passed since she and Harry made the decision to quit life as senior working royals and eventually settle in Montecito, California.

The Sussex title was bestowed upon her and Prince Harry by Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day on May 19, 2018. The late Queen gifted her grandson the Duke of Sussex title to mark his nuptials, making his official title His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex. As his new wife, Meghan took on the equivalent title of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.

Hitting out on social media and accusing her of arrogance, one X user wrote: “Excuse me but #MeghanMarkle wants you to know that her last name is Sussex. Not so fast, Markle. Not in the US. We don’t have titles and “of Sussex” is a title.

Another said: “She doesn’t even know her name. It’s not Sussex; that is not what she has on her children’s birth certificates.”

Meghan Markle also appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show last week to promote her new cooking series and discuss her new brand, As Ever. In addition to talking about everything business, Meghan also gave away some more insights into her life post-royal, including revealing that her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, speak with both American and British accents.

Meghan also spoke about how, since the COVID-19 pandemic, people have missed human connection, and she enjoys seeing her friends once more and showing them how much she cares.

Speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show, Meghan said she finds time to have lunch with her husband daily despite their busy schedules. She said: “We love doing school drop-off and pick-up for the kids. Our days are busy with meetings, but we have lunch together every day, that middle-of-the-day catch-up. We just make it a point to date each other.”

In a surprise reveal on social media, Meghan told fans that season two of her Netflix show will air in the autumn.
