Meghan Markle gave Buckingham Palace “the ick” after she posed with former editor-in-chief of British Vogue Edward Enninful in a sparkly red party hat, a royal expert has claimed. The Duchess of Sussex was seen with the British-Ghanaian fashion editor in 2019 when she guest-edited the magazine.
Despite the Palace being “supportive” of her involvement in editing the iconic magazine for its ‘Faces of Change’ edition, it was less impressed with her “behind-the-scenes” antics, according to royal expert Rebecca English. Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden gave a withering assessment of the former Suits actress’ behaviour. He said: “It wasn’t very regal was it?”.
Recounting the tale in full, the paper’s royal editor Rebecca English said: “I know a bit of a story regarding Meghan and Vogue… The piece she did with Vogue, when she did her first kind of big piece with them about voices and faces of change, which was a really powerful piece of work.”
She continued: “[It was ] the fastest selling issue of British Vogue in its history but I know… she did a bit of behind-the-scenes video with Edward Enninful to publicise that, and at one point they were wearing kind of party hats and things like that, and I know that didn’t go down well in Palace circles.”
Ms English said, despite the Palace’s backing of Meghan’s role in the project, they were thoroughly disappointed with how she carried herself in promotional material.
She added: “They were very supportive of her doing the project, they thought it was very powerful, it then slipped into quite silly celebrity territory, and I don’t think they were that happy.
“Someone described it to me as giving them the ick”.
