Meghan Markle opens up on what Sussex royal title really means to her in rare interview | Royal | News

Meghan Markle has said the Sussex title holds deeper significance than she first imagined, opening up in a candid interview ahead of the release of Netflix show due to air tomorrow – ‘With Love, Meghan’. Five years have passed since she and Harry made the decision to quit life as senior working royals and eventually settle in Montecito, California.

The Sussex title was bestowed upon her and Prince Harry by Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day on May 19, 2018. The late Queen gifted her grandson the Duke of Sussex title to mark his nuptials, making his official title His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex. As his new wife, Meghan took on the equivalent title of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex. Meghan told People Magazine: “It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children.

“I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.”

The Duke of Sussex also added how the name remains “part of our love story”.

Meghan’s eight-episode, 30-minute, lifestyle show sees her cooking, crafting, and gardening with friends and chefs while sharing personal stories and recipes.

In the interview, Meghan also opens up about her own growth, and explains how her husband Harry appears to be happier for his wife, now she is doing again what she is passionate about. She explains: “My husband met me when I had The Tig, and I see this spark in his eye when he sees me doing the thing that I was doing when he first met me.”

On March 3, Netflix released the third – and likely final – trailer for ‘With Love, Meghan’ ahead of the launch of the eight-episode programme on March 4.

The new teaser trailer shows Meghan making a large rainbow-coloured platter of fruit on a chopping board and arranging it into a pretty design with cloud-shaped dollops of yoghurt. The clip on Netflix’s Instagram account is posted alongside the caption: “Find the fun in the every day moments” with a rainbow emoji followed by “With Love, Meghan premieres tomorrow! @meghan”.

With Love, Meghan airs on the streaming platform at 8am in the UK on Tuesday, after being delayed from a January date due to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

Coinciding with the launch of the show, is Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever, which she switched from the name American Riviera Orchard just weeks before the launch after facing trademarking setbacks.

In the interview with People Magazine, The Duchess of Sussex also said she did not identify as an influencer and she thanked those who “gave me the grace to make mistakes and figure it out”. She hinted her signature jam will be among the offerings, set to launch this spring.

Over the past year, Meghan had distributed jams under the previous label ‘American Riviera Orchard’ to her close friends.

Meghan candidly opened up about the “learning curve” she experienced with her lifestyle series and brand, admitting there had been “tons of twists and turns”.
