Meghan Markle has been accused of using a “typical celebrity move”, in order to “create buzz” around her.

Last week, the former royal made an unexpected appearance at a gala, which was hosted by Variety, in Los Angeles.

Meghan’s latest appearance marked a red carpet comeback for the former actress, who is best-known for her long-standing role in US drama Suits.

Andy Barr, who is the CEO and co-founder of www.10yetis.co.uk, spoke to the Mirror about Meghan’s PR strategy.

He said: “Firstly, [Meghan and Harry] can’t do a lot right when it comes to the majority of the UK press.

“If they announced what they were doing beforehand, it would be open to scrutiny and called a PR stunt.

“It also runs the risk of overshadowing the events and great causes they’re associated with.”

Discussing Meghan, he said: “Secondly, and as Meghan will be accustomed to, this is a typical celeb move; pop up and create buzz from the excitement that you’re somewhere people weren’t expecting to see you.”

At the event, which she attended without Harry, Meghan also teased upcoming projects and a possible Hollywood comeback.

Whilst on the red carpet, Meghan said that she was “thrilled” to be present and back in the world of entertainment.

The former royal said: “I think the more we support each other it just amplifies the work, amplifies our community and I’m just thrilled to be back in it and to be able to sit in this room and be in such good company tonight.”

While posing on the red carpet, she hinted at their upcoming projects, saying that they “have so many exciting things on the slate”.

She also added: “I can’t wait until we can announce them, but I’m just really proud of what we’re creating.”

Pointing out another tactic of Meghan and Harry, Mr Barr added: “We’ve seen in recent months that the couple have become more reserved when it comes to sharing the news of what they’re doing.

“They’re instead trying to create mystery and hype by letting us know they have projects in the pipeline, but not giving us any more detail.

“All we can do is sit back and wait for the news to break that they’ve popped up somewhere else.”
