Malaysian State Visit to Britain, 1974

The British Royal Family hosted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Abdul Halim of Kedah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Bahiyah of Malaysia on their State Visit to Britain on this day in 1974, 50 years ago, the first State Visit following Malaysian Independence.

The British Royal Family received the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Abdul Halim of Kedah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Sultanah Bahiyah at Victoria Station in London, which was followed by a Carriage Procession back to Buckingham Palace.

That evening, the Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara) and Duke of Edinburgh hosted a State Banquet for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia (in the Gandik Diraja Tiara) at Buckingham Palace, at which you could also spot the new Duke of Gloucester and Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone (wearing her Diamond Palmette Tiara).

The Queen, Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Anne had made a State Visit to Malaysia in 1972, which was later followed by another State Visit to Malaysia in 1989 that itself was reciprocated by the Malaysian State Visit to Britain in 1993, ahead of the final British State Visit to Malaysia in 1998.
