Luxembourg State Visit to Sweden, 2008


The Swedish Royal Family hosted Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg on their State Visit to Sweden on this day in 2008, which followed the Luxembourg State Visit to Sweden in 1991. Grand Duke Henri is related to King Carl XVI Gustaf through his grandmother, Queen Astrid of Belgium, who was born a Princess of Sweden.

Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg were received by King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, and Princess Madeleine at Arlanda Airport before an Official Welcome Ceremony at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

In the evening, King Carl XVI Gustaf (in the the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau) and Queen Silvia of Sweden (wearing the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Parure and the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau) hosted a spectacular State Banquet in honour of Grand Duke Henri (in the Order of the Seraphim) and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg (wearing the Belgian Scroll Tiara, Black and White Pearl Earrings, Chaumet Choker, Princess Ingeborg’s Pearl Brooch and the Order of the Seraphim).

Also present were Crown Princess Victoria (in the Baden Fringe Tiara), Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine (wearing the Modern Fringe Tiara) as well as Count Carl Johan and Countess Gunnila Bernadotte (in her Tiara).
