King Philippe and Queen Mathilde returned to France on Monday, this time as parents instead of King and Queen of the Belgians.
Their Majesties visited the Saint-Cyr Military Academy in Brittany to see their son, Prince Gabriel. And they did a check on his chores as they toured the academy – and came out smiling.
The Belgian prince, 21, is currently on an exchange at the French military academy from the Royal Military School.
Prince Gabriel did what many post-secondary students do when their parents visit – he gave them a tour.
King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were able to see academy cadets carrying out various training exercises, see the campus and even carry out a bed check. The proud parents looked impressed – and a little surprised – at just how tidy Prince Gabriel is keeping his digs.
They were also able to speak with other Belgian students studying at the academy.
Queen Mathilde was focused with her fashion choices, as well, with diplomatic dressing first on the agenda.
She wore a custom houndstooth skirt suit with a cape from Belgian couturier Natan, one of her favourite fashion houses. And as a strong nod to France, she carried a Christian Dior handbag, the C’est Dior bag in light pink.
Prince Gabriel is not the only Belgian royal currently studying abroad. His older sister, Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant, is currently studying for her Masters in Public Policy at Harvard.
