King Frederik and Queen Mary confirm Danish royal tradition to continue

As the winter slowly comes to a close, King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark are looking forward to the summer. The Danish royals have shared their sailing schedule for the Royal Yacht Dannebrog for 2025, ensuring a tradition continues on in this new reign.

Dannebrog’s official sailing season will begin on 7 May when the King and Queen step aboard.

The Danish monarch traditionally takes a cruise in August on the royal yacht to visit different Danish communities.

They will then visit Læsø Municipality on the 27th; Læsø is the largest island in the North Sea bay of Kattegat and has a population of roughly 1,750. The cruise will then wrap up on 28 August with a visit to Samsø Municipality.

The Royal Yacht is nearly a century old. Originally named Queen Alexandrine, the yacht’s flag first flew on 26 May 1932.

King Christian X first began the tradition of summer cruises, followed by King Frederik IX, and Queen Margrethe. This will be the second summer cruise of King Frederik’s reign.

The Royal Yacht Dannebrog also has a significant naval role, including training officers, patrolling, and helping to conduct rescue missions.
