King Frederik and Crown Prince Christian enjoy golden day for Denmark at Olympics

King Frederik and Crown Prince Christian of Denmark witnessed Olympic history on Sunday, 11 August. 

Denmark has won the gold min Men’s Handball at the 2024 Summer Olympics after claiming silver at the 2020 Tokyo games. 

Playing at Pierre Mauroy Stadium, Denmark beat Germany with a final score of 39-26. Spain took bronze against Slovenia to complete the podium. 

This is Denmark’s second gold medal in Men’s Handball; they won their first against France at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

The Danish King and Crown Prince were on hand to witness the victory themselves and shared several photos of them at the game on Instagram. They were happily celebrating the game and cheering along courtside. 

King Frederik has spent several days at the Paris Olympic Games already, seeing several Danish athletes competing at the games and representing Denmark with Queen Mary at the Opening Ceremonies on the Seine River. 

This is Crown Prince Christian’s first appearance at the Olympics this year. 

Both Danish royals went for casual blazers for the handball match. King Frederik went patriotic with his choice of red trousers. 

This is Denmark’s second gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics; they have won two golds, two silvers and five ronze Medals.
