King Felipe gets summer stay in Mallorca under way

King Felipe of Spain has begun his summer stay in Mallorca as he arrived at the Royal Palace of La Almudaina.

King Felipe met with several Balearic organisations on Wednesday morning to mark the beginning of his summer residence in Mallorca. Mallorca is one of the main islands in the Balearic Islands, an autonomous group of islands that used to be part of the Kingdom of Mallorca.

The Spanish king met with Margalida Prohens Rigo, the President of the Balearic Islands; Gabriel Le Senne i Presedo, the President of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands; Jaime Martinez Llabres, Mayor of Palma; and Llorenç Sebastià Galmés Verger, the President of the Council of Mallorca.

Felipe also took time to chat with the large waiting crowds on his walkabout.

The Royal Palace of La Almudaina is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family in the summer. The palace was originally built in the thirteenth century and has had modifications and additions in the centuries since.

The king and his family will typically carry out official duties at La Almudaina while spending their private time at the Palace of Marivent.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia are expected to be in Paris later this week for the start of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
