King Charles appeared in high spirits this morning as he visited Aberdeen in a green and navy tartan kilt.

The 76-year-old monarch paired the iconic Scottish garment with a beige tweed blazer, matching waistcoat, shirt and tie and long navy socks.

The King is visiting Aberdeen to view the renovations made to The Gordon Highlanders Museum.

The Museum is an independent, self-financed museum governed by a charitable trust.

It seeks to preserve the heritage of The Gordon Highlanders in memory of the regiment and uses their stories to help people understand what it means to have served in a Highland Regiment.

Charles became Colonel in Chief of The Gordon Highlanders in 1978 and remained so until the regiment’s amalgamation with the Queen’s Own Highlanders in 1994. He has visited the 1st Battalion on operations while training in the field and in barracks.

The King has spent the past few weeks in Scotland, enjoying some downtime in the Highlands before his busy schedule of engagements resumed.

Next week, he will travel to Poland to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp.
