King Charles has spoken of his happiness at being able to carry out more public engagements again as he took on his first military duty since his return. On a visit to Hampshire, The King spoke of his relief as he continues to carry out more engagements after doctors gave him the go ahead to expand his diary while he continues with treatment for cancer.
The King looked happy to be out and about when he visited the 3 Royal School of Military Engineering on May 9th 2024. He was first welcomed by both Lord Lt Nigel Atkinson and Maj Gen Eldon Millar before receiving a salute from a Quarter Guard. Afterwards, he spoke with soldiers and staff about their experiences.
While chatting, The King let slip that he was finally being allowed to do more engagements. He explained: ”I do apologise for taking you by surprise, when this opportunity appeared and I had been allowed out of my cage, I wanted to come to have a look.”
Since Easter, King Charles has slowly been carrying out more engagements and meeting with bigger groups of people in his return to public duties. Earlier this week, he hosted the first of the Buckingham Palace garden parties where he met with many people from all walks of life.
The 3RSME is an historic institution; all Royal Engineer soldiers are trained in combat engineer initial trade training at 3RSME. It was first established in 1939 and is in Minley, Surrey.
