King Charles has carried out some athletic diplomacy with a visit to Tottenham Hotspur.

The King visited the football club for a joint event between Tottenham Hotspur Premier League team and the US National Football League.

King Charles visited the club to celebrate the work that Tottenham is doing in the community to support local businesses and promote community.

In addition to meeting with students from the London Academy of Excellence, a state-funded school on the campus, His Majesty also met with an ex-offender who changed her life’s path with help and support from the King’s Foundation.

Gina Moffatt runs a local restaurant and while chatting with the King, she shared that he is “bigger than Beyoncé”.

Tottenham works with the NFL to run The Huddle Project, a programme that offers football and American flag football for free to boys and girls aged 11-18 in the local community.

King Charles was able to learn more about football from British-American football player and commentator Phoebe Schecter and British-Nigerian NFL Efe Obada. They also helped him try his hand at American football.

King Charles gave it a good go but missed. Efe Obada praised the royal energy and added ”his technique was immense. I wanted him to get a hoop, in the target, but he was just having a good time.”

And he revealed that the NFL has a royal supporter, saying of King Charles ”…he’s a fan…he’s going to watch the games.”

The King wasn’t so sure of Spurs’ activities on the field. He asked their captain, Heung-Min Son, just days after they were knocked out of the FA Cup by a certain Aston Villa, favourite club of the heir to the throne.

But if Spurs’ fans don’t feel like singing for their team right now, they were vocal in their support for King Charles who was given a huge cheer by the school children at the stadium as he stepped on to the pitch.
