The King has invited US President, Donald Trump, for a second State Visit to the UK.

It’s the first time an elected politician has been given the honour of two State Visits.

Donald Trump said an immediate yes to the invitation.

Anticipation had been high ahead of the visit of the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, to Washington that a second State Visit would be offered to President Trump who has made no secret of his admiration for the Royal Family.

Almost as soon as the two men met, at the White House, Sir Keir handed over a letter from The King inviting Donald Trump.

The US President agreed without hesitation.

The date of the expected, although unprecedented, State Visit isn’t yet known.

Donald Trump’s first State Visit was in 2019, towards the end of his first term in office, when he was hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

This time round, Windsor Castle will be the setting for the formal parts of the visit as the Palace is now undergoing renovation work.

President Trump has spoken in glowing terms about the Royal Family and, during his campaign for a second term, showed a TV programme photographs of his first State Visit.

His admiration for the royals has led to debate about how important a role King Charles and Prince William will play in US/ UK relations during the second Trump administration. The US President is understood to be a big fan of the Prince of Wales following their meeting in Paris after the official reopening of Notre Dame in December, just before Donald Trump took up office again.
