King Charles has been discharged from hospital following his planned corrective procedure for a benign enlarged prostate on Friday.

His wife Queen Camilla had arrived at The London Clinic just half an hour earlier, to ensure she was there to pick him up. It comes just hours after Kensington Palace revealed that Kate, the Princess of Wales, had been discharged from the same hospital after a 14-day stay.

The King waved to crowds as he from the front entrance of the London Clinic at 3pm, accompanied by the Queen, and was driven away in a waiting car.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The King was this afternoon discharged from hospital following planned medical treatment and has rescheduled forthcoming public engagements to allow for a period of private recuperation.

“He would like to thank the medical team and all those involved in supporting his hospital visit, and is grateful for all the kind messages he has received in recent days.”

A source told The Sun: “It is understood that Charles would only stay in hospital for longer than two nights if there was some kind of unexpected issue. The extra stay is entirely precautionary but has nevertheless reportedly caused some unease.”

Queen Camilla twice visited the King on Sunday, the third and fourth times she has been to see him at the private hospital since he was admitted on Friday.
