King Charles looks every bit the settled monarch in his latest official portrait, even without any official regalia.

Wearing a simple pin-striped suit and tie he appeared calm, confident and relaxed as he prepares to enter his 75th year.

His Coronation portrait saw him flanked in full regalia – elaborate robes, the Imperial State Crown and other regalia – and in these images who looks quite nervous and unsure.

But in the latest official photograph – his first since the Coronation – Charles has transformed from a man who is just finding his feet to one who knows exactly what he’s doing – and what he wants.

He looks at home and in control, over a year on from the death of his mother and his accession to the throne.

The past 14 months have been far from easy, as he’s grappled with rising Republicanism at home and abroad, family feuds and adjusting to an apolitical role when he has spent decades of his life campaigning.

But while his first year has seen him tread a cautious path, the King is starting to make the job his own.

He will spend his birthday launching the Coronation Food Project, aiming to distribute surplus food destined for landfills to those in need, in a bid to support the nation’s neediest during the cost-of-living crisis.

Tackling food waste and insecurity will just be the start, as Charles has got his sights sets on championing other issues affecting the nation.

The new picture of King Charles was taken by John Rankin for the latest cover of The Big Issue magazine heralding his Coronation Food Project.
