King Charles and Queen Camilla to unveil Coronation Portraits for first time | Royal | News

King Charles and Queen Camilla will unveil the recently completed Coronation State Portraits this morning. The two paintings, which show the pair wearing their Robes of State and glittering Crowns, were undertaken by Peter Kuhfeld and Paul S. Benney respectively.

The grand unveiling at the National Gallery comes exactly two years since the King and Queen’s Coronation, which took place on May 6, 2023. Charles and Camilla personally commissioned the portraits and they will form part of The Royal Collection.

During their visit to the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square this morning, the royal couple also marked the re-opening of the Sainsbury Wing, following a two-year transformational project for the National Gallery’s 200th anniversary.

Camilla is wearing a striking red wool crepe dress by Fiona Clare, marking the second day she has worn the UK’s national colours as the country marks the 80th anniversary of VE day this week.

Yesterday, when the Royal Family watched a flypast on the Buckingham Palace balcony and watched a military procession down the Mall, the Queen wore bright blue.

The King and Queen were greeted inside the Sainsbury Wing by a fanfare from the State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry Band – echoing the welcome that Queen Elizabeth II received when Her late Majesty opened the original Sainsbury Wing, in 1991.
