King Charles and Queen Camilla step out for first time since Italy visit | Royal | News

King Charles and Queen Camilla have stepped out for the first time since returning home from their successful visit to Italy. The couple, who spent four days in Rome last week, were photographed as they arrived for a church service at Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral.

King Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 77, beamed as they made their way into the building. To mark the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary, which was on April 9, a piece of music called ‘The Weather Of My Being’ by Paul Mealor was performed during the service. The piece comprised of three songs – each of which reflects an aspect of love, the couple’s support for the environment, literature, and, lastly, their connection with Scotland. For the Sunday outing, the King was dressed in traditional Scottish attire, wearing a tartan kilt named in his honour. The King Charles III tartan, which was designed by the Scottish Tartans Authority in May 2023, was worn in a picture released to mark Burn’s Night back in January. On the other hand, the Queen looked dazzling by wearing a dusty blue coat with a green tartan collar. She also wore a red fascinator.

Since returning to Scotland, following their Italian visit, the couple have resided at their Birkhall home. During their visit, which has been deemed highly successful by commentators, King Charles looked in good spirits as he engaged with the public in the sunny Italian weather.

Following their return to Britain, King Charles and Queen Camilla likely celebrated their landmark wedding anniversary.

In a candid chat with UK newspapers on their anniversary on Wednesday, Queen Camilla mentioned the special occasion, which fell on April 9 in the midst of the trip, explaining they would mark it after flying back to the UK. She told the publications: “We are going to save that. Otherwise you have to rush it.”

Speaking to reporters in Italy, Camilla also revealed the secret to their long happy marriage. She said: “Who could believe it was 20 years? What is the secret? I don’t know, well, I suppose it’s just sort of friendship, really.”

She added: “Laughing at the same things, getting on with life. I suppose doing this (gesturing to the engagement) takes up most of the time.”

The visit carried out earlier this week by the King and Queen aimed to strengthen ties between the Italy and Britain, with the couple concluding their stay in the Mediterranean nation on April 10.

Recently speaking to PEOPLE, Federico Marchetti – who is the founder of YOOX Net-a-Porter – said having the King visit his hometown “felt truly magical”.

During how the couple were received in Italy, he added: “The visit went very well, they were received with much affection, great enthusiasm, great passion from Italy.”
