King Albert of Belgium is set to leave hospital tomorrow.

The Belgian Royal Palace has informed Belgian reporter Wim Dehandschutter that the King will be discharged around 2 pm on 5 July and will continue to recover at home.

The 89-year-old former monarch has been hospitalised since 27 June.

He was initially taken to the hospital after feeling unwell; there, it was determined that he was suffering from dehydration. Later testing showed he also had a blood infection.

The Royal Palace stressed there was no cause for concern during the hospital stay.

Queen Paola was at her husband’s side during his hospitalisation and was visited several times by his children.

There are plans for the King to attend Belgium’s National Day on 21 July, which will also mark ten years since he abdicated the throne. He is scheduled to attend the Te Deum in the morning and the concert in the evening, as long as his health allows.

King Albert was on the Belgian throne from 1993 to 2013, when he abdicated due to poor health in favour of his eldest son, Philippe.
