Happy Birthday to Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah of Malaysia, who turns 65 today! The accomplished Perak Princess who is the consort of the Sultan of Johor and the current Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen) of Malaysia, Queen Zarith Sofiah has gained access to the Gandik Diraja Tiara but has a spectacular collection of jewels, so we are featuring the Johor Royal Tiaras today!

Diadem

The Diadem of the Permaisuri (Queen) of Johor was created at the same time as the State Crown by J.W. Benson in London in 1886. In 1925, the Diadem was modified with the addition of five large diamonds, each weighing roughly 18 carats.

Diamond Tiara

The most important heirloom Diadem of the Johor Royal Family was created by Benson’s in London in the later half of the 19th century and has been worn by generations of the Sultanas of Johor. Queen Zarith Sofiah wore the Diamond Tiara at the Banquet held after the Coronation of her husband, Sultan Ibrahim, as the Sultan of Johor in 2015.

Perak Diamond Tiara

As a Princess from the State of Perak, Queen Zarith Sofiah inherited this Diamond Tiara from her mother, Raja Perempuan (Queen) Muzwin of Perak, and has also loaned the Diamond Tiara to her daugher-in-law, Che’ Puan Mahkota (Crown Princess) Khaleeda.

Diamond Tiara

Since her marriage in 1984, Queen Zarith Sofiah has worn another Diamond Tiara, which shared many design similarities with the British Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.

While it was worn by Queen Zarith Sofiah for the State Opening of Malaysian Parliament earlier this year, the Diamond Tiara is now primarily worn by Che’ Puan Mahkota (Crown Princess) Khaleeda, most recently for the Sultan of Johor’s 65th Birthday and the King of Malaysia’s Installation Banquet.

Emerald Tiara

Over the years, Queen Zarith Sofiah has often worn this Stirling Emerald and Diamond Tiara, which was also worn by Che’ Puan Mahkota (Crown Princess) Khaleeda for the Coronation Banquet of the Sultan of Johor in 2015.

After it was worn for the Sultan of Johor’s 65th Birthday last year, Queen Zarith Sofiah wore the Emerald Tiara for Official Portraits as the Sultan of Johor was appointed the XVII King of Malaysia.

Pearl Tiara

The provenance of the Pearl and Diamond Tiara and Parure is unknown, but the Necklace and Earrings were worn also by Queen Zarith Sofiah’s mother, Raja Perempuan (Queen) Muzwin of Perak, while she herself often wore it during her time as the Crown Princess of Johor.

These days, the Pearl and Diamond Tiara is primarily worn by Che’ Puan Mahkota (Crown Princess) Khaleeda, including for the Coronation of the Sultan of Johor in 2015 and most recently the Installation of the King of Malaysia.

Ruby Tiara

Queen Zarith Sofiah possesses a striking Ruby and Diamond Tiara, which has a mirrored necklace as well, which has also been worn by her daughter, Princess Aminah, as well as Che’ Puan Mahkota (Crown Princess) Khaleeda.

Sapphire Tiara

At the King of Malaysia’s Installation Banquet last month, Queen Zarith Sofiah debuted a new Sapphire and Diamond Tiara, along with a Sapphire and Diamond Necklace she had worn for the Banquet after the Coronation of her husband, Sultan Ibrahim, as the Sultan of Johor in 2015.

Diamond Tiara

This striking Yellow and White and Diamond Tiara was created for the Wedding of Princess Aminah to Dato’ Dennis Muhammad Abdullah in 2017, which she wore again for the King of Malaysia’s Installation Banquet last month, after she had debuted another Tiara at the Installation.
