I’m a fashion expert and there’s a style icon in town – follow Queen Camilla’s on-trend shirt dresses & modern midaxis

CAMILLA wowed in a wide-leg jumpsuit this week, proving that style has no age limit.

Clemmie Fieldsend reveals why we should all follow the Queen’s lead.

ATTENDING an event at Hampton Court Palace this week, the Queen made fashion strides in an electric blue jumpsuit.

Swapping her favoured frocks for something more modern shows that Camilla is clearly fashion-forward and prepared to experiment – a lead the rest of us should be ready to follow.

Not only is the bright colour eye-catching, but the trousers are flattering on all figures as they follow the lines of your hips to your feet, making your legs look longer.

MODERN MIDAXI

OVER the past few seasons, midaxi dresses – a hybrid of midi and maxi where hems end just above the ankle – have been a huge hit.

In celebration of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee last July, Camilla wore a printed, spearmint-green, collarless midaxi dress to a garden party.

It also had a drawstring waist to allow her to show off her silhouette.

This style is perfect for summer BBQs, or hot days at the office.

The punchy colour gives the frock a modern look, as opposed to prim florals, and the attention to the sports-lux-inspired drawstring elevates this further.

Wear yours, like Camilla, with your comfiest footwear for an outfit that is effortless yet looks very well put together.

UNDERSTATED GLAMOUR

IN 2005, Camilla and Charles tied the knot in a civil ceremony followed by a blessing in Windsor.

The bride wore a pale blue-grey gown and matching coat with gold detailing by Anna Valentine and headwear by Philip Treacy.

Since then, the Queen has continued to wow with embellishments and opted for bold colours for big royal dos.

She has mastered how to look elegant without wearing garish outfits.

Whether the Queen is at a royal wedding or attending the royal literary festival at Hampton Court she always gets it right.

The jumpsuit she wore at the festival (main picture) shows that Camilla is in touch with fashion and isn’t afraid to try something new, and the rest of us should follow suit.

TIMELESS CLASSICS

IN May this year, the King and Queen took a trip to Northern Island and Camilla donned one of fashion’s most timeless trends, the trench coat.

And proving her style credentials, she wore it on her shoulders as the fashion crowd do (if you’re wondering if there’s a name for this, there is, it’s “shrobing”).

Whilst trenches are synonymous with April showers and spring months, they’re vital for summer too.

After all, in the UK you never know when the weather might turn.

In neutral shades like camel or beige they work with no end of print and colour combinations.

COOL CASUAL

DURING lockdown, Camilla and Charles took to their doorstep in Birkhall, Aberdeenshire, to clap for carers.

But while the Queen’s outfit looked somewhat casual, her stylish slim-fit jeans and tailored blazer and shirt wouldn’t have looked out of place on the Celine catwalk.

The French company is known for understated luxury looks, and Camilla echoes that same style. It’s a way of dressing that reflects modern monarchy.

It’s not all tulle dresses and tiaras, these laid-back looks of Camilla’s show us that she’s not too far removed from us mere mortals when it comes to kicking back at home.

Just like us she grabs her go-to jeans, chucks on a blazer to make it look more polished and gets on with her day.
