Princess Kate made an emotional visit this week to the very same hospital where she received her own cancer treatment last year.

The Princess of Wales, 43, stepped out on a solo trip to the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, London, on Tuesday where she met staff who had been involved in her care, along with patients undergoing chemotherapy.

While the princess finished her own treatment in October last year and is now in remission, it has been said that the future Queen’s visit made a big difference to cancer patients, especially as Kate opened up about her own experiences.

Despite revealing information about her treatment and recovery journey, including what she was advised to do and what she craved, the princess has not revealed what type of cancer she had, with one person she met believing this should stay secret.

Angela Terry, non-executive chair of EGFR Positive UK, met the Princess of Wales during the visit as she was awaiting her own treatment.

She told People magazine: “She was there to say thank you to the people who had looked after her, talk to patients who were in a similar situation. It was a great message of hope because she looked so well.

“We don’t need to know what cancer she had. We just know she’s been through surgery, she’s been through chemo — and one year later, my goodness, look, she is here.”

She continued: “She has such poise and elegance, extremely genuine and sincere. She is very personable. I watched her talking to other patients and she’s amazing.

“She has this gentle eye contact as she talks, she reaches out and maybe touches their shoulder or holds their hand and her smile is always there. The level of connection she makes with each and every person she meets is phenomenal.”

Princess Kate and the King were both diagnosed with cancer last year and began treatment. Neither the princess, 43, or the monarch, 76, have revealed what type of cancer they have.

While Kate finished her treatment last year, the King is still undergoing treatment while continuing to carry out royal engagements.

Prince William previously said the health battles faced by his wife and father meant that 2024 had been a “brutal” year for the family.

The princess’ visit this week was her first public appearance of the year, with the future Queen set to continue her gradual return to work.
