Lady Marina Windsor has opened up about her relationship with her grandfather, the Duke of Kent, in a new interview.

Speaking to Hello!, Lady Marina described her 88-year-old grandfather as an “amazing man”.

The 31-year-old socialite said: “I love my grandpa. He’s an amazing man and he’s definitely inspired me.”

Lady Marina is the daughter of the Earl and Countess of St Andrews, and the granddaughter of the Duke and Duchess of Kent.

She was named after her great-grandmother, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark.

Along with her elder brother, Lord Downpatrick, Marina forfeited her place in the line of succession after being confirmed into the Roman Catholic church.

Lady Marina’s tribute to the Duke of Kent comes a couple of weeks after His Royal Highness stepped down as Colonel of the Scots Guards after 50 years in the role.

The 88-year-old royal does, however, continue to quietly conduct official engagements on behalf of The King, despite his advancing age and mobility problems.

The duke has so far conducted 24 royal engagements in 2024, ranging from dinners and receptions, to private audiences at Kensington Palace.

A first cousin to the late Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Kent is the longest serving member of The Royal Family, conducting official business on behalf of the monarch for over 70 years.

He started royal engagements at an early age, and in 1952, at just the age of 16, walked behind the coffin of his uncle, George VI, at his State Funeral. The next year, he would attend his cousin’s Coronation and was third to pay homage to her following the Dukes of Edinburgh and Gloucester.
