In his autobiography, Spare, the Prince describes how his father, the King, did not hug him when he broke the news of Princess Diana’s death, adding: “He wasn’t great at showing emotions under normal circumstances, how could he be expected to show them in such a crisis?”

He also claimed that in trying to recall the exact events of that day he had come to the “inescapable conclusion” that he was left on his own in his bedroom at Balmoral until 9am the following morning when the piper began to play outside.

Heart of Invictus has been released in the run-up to next month’s Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The series, which was first announced more than two years ago, has been made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Productions company.

It is directed by Orlando von Einsiedel and produced by Joanna Natasegara, who worked together on the Oscar-winning short The White Helmets.

The Duke will travel to Germany for the entirety of the games, which begin on Sept 9. His wife will join him shortly after the games begin.
